Game of Travels

As announced, here is the post about the rest of the holidays I spent with Merry and Pippin. My mom picked us up at the airport in Lyon and we drove to Bordeaux from there, where we spent one night and half a day to do some fast sightseeing. In the afternoon, we left for Bilbao, where we spent 3 days in total, one of which was spent in Gaztelugatxe. On the way back to Lyon, we stopped at Carcassonne for about 2,5 hours because the way from Bilbao to Lyon is f*cking long, and Carcassonne is f*cking beautiful.

The Winds of Dragonstone

Pippin, Merry and I spent the last two weeks travelling together. We went to Bordeaux, Bilbao, Gaztelugatxe, Carcassonne and Lyon – Bordeaux, Bilbao, Carcasonne and Lyon will get their own post soon, because this one is going to focus on Gaztelugatxe. If the title hasn’t given it away, here’s why: because it was partially used for the filming of the scenes in Dragonstone on Game of Thrones, most notably the stairs, and because we’re nerds, that’s the only reason we drove that far in the first place. No regrets. It was beautiful.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a monastery in Basque Country in Spain, not so far from Bilbao, which is why we stayed in Bilbao and drove up from there. The castle isn’t real, of course, which is a bummer – why are the castles never real? And there were no dragons, which is also a bummer. They would have been super useful and could have helped avoid all those damn stairs… oh, well. Good thing we have functioning legs.

They’re Taking The Hobbits To Barcelona

Well, will you look at that – we finallly got around to making a post about our vacation in Spain this summer! It took us a while, because there were a lot of photos to sort through, but here we are, writing about it.

Technically, it was a family vacation; my family decided to go to Catalonia for our annual summer vacation, and because I’ve grown quite tired of the constant tensing between certain relatives of mine, I’ve decided that I would not join them unless Frodo came with me. And, I mean, my family might not be the coolest people on this planet, but they’re all right when it comes down to it, and it was a free vacation, in Spain, so why would Frodo say no? (I may or may not have bullied her into coming with me. But she’s never been to Barcelona, and we wanted to go but hadn’t found the time or money to do it, and now we had both, so I don’t feel particularly guilty).

Anyway, here’s the post about it. It’s mostly pictures, of course, because, let’s face it, we’re not exactly adventurous, and usually play it safe with planning ahead and whatnot.

The wonderful Wendy tagged us to do 8 Photos of Happiness.

Rules and explanation of this tag:

  • Thank your nominator/s and link them in your post.
  • Link the creator (Ariel’s little corner of the internet)
  • Post your 8 photos of happiness;
  • The photos can be anything that represents a moment, object, place or feeling that makes you happy.
  •        Pop in a brief description of the photo, why you chose it or let the photos do the talking!
  • Spread the happiness and tag up to ten other bloggers!

We haven’t yet decided whether it’s going to be difficult to find an entire 8 photos of happiness that we agree on, or difficult to choose from all the photos out there… We’ll see, I guess.

Shall we?
