This week’s 5 Fandom Friday is 5 Fandoms We Love But Didn’t Think We Would. Nice. Let’s see if we have 5 fandoms that we joined hesitantly at first.
Neither of us is a big fan of the horror genre – and at first, Supernatural was supposed to be just that: a horror show. There’s still creepy monsters today, but they’re mostly found in the first couple of seasons. The changelings, for once, still creep me out. So I was not quite sure whether I would enjoy the show or not. But then I watched it, and I fell in love with it. And made Sam fall in love with it. And now we’re so into this thing that we go to conventions and stuff. So yeah, I’d say that was a surprise. Who would have thought that it could go from this:
2. The Lunar Chronicles
As far as I know, there’s not a big fandom for The Lunar Chronicles, but we’re still going to put it on this list, because we loved the books so much, but never thought we would. Sure, we’ve read the occasional Sci-Fi book and might even have enjoyed a couple of them, but we’re not huge fans of the Sci-Fi genre (Star Wars doesn’t count). But man, did The Lunar Chronicles surprise us. We might even change our minds about Sci-Fi in general. These books are fantastic, and we both devoured them like there was no tomorrow.
3. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I was very sceptical about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I wasn’t persuaded by the promos, cause I felt it looked… I don’t know, weak? Or something. I don’t think I ever would have started watching the show, but Sam kept insisting I should because she loved it, and now I’m more obsessed with the show than she is. So it’s all her fault.
4. Team Cap
It’s not a fandom per-se, but we still thought we’d add it, because we never thought we’d ever be Team Captain America. The first movie was… well, let’s say it could have been a lot better, and in The Avengers, Steve Roger’s role wasn’t all that big, and he was a bit too much of a boy-scout in our opinions. But then we watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and our opinions did a U-turn with sreeching tires. He wasn’t just a boy-scout anymore. He was awesome. We always thought we’d be more for Iron Man – turns out we were wrong. Now that Civil War is almost upon us, we’re definitely rooting for the Captain. Sorry, Tony.
5. Teen Wolf
It’s one of our guitly pleasure fandoms, what can we say. The only reason we ever even started watching this show was because we were bored. And even though Teen Wolf is every bit as cheesy and sometimes cringe-worthy as its title, we still enjoy watching it. At least they have stayed true to the cheesiness and cringe-worthiness we’ve come to expect and somewhat even love. Plus, Stiles is awesome.
