So Agent Carter‘s season 2 premiered a couple of days ago, and because we LOVED season 1, we were looking forward to this since they’ve announced it. And of course we’re going to talk about it.
Spoiler-free, too! I’ve been working on my spoiler-free skills, and I’m starting to get better at it.
We did a post on season 1, so I’m not going to tell you about the premise of this show. Instead, I’ll get right into the important things about these first 2 episodes.
The acting is f*cking fantastic. Hayley Atwell and James D’Arcy are still as awesome as they were in season 1; the relationship between Peggy and Jarvis is still the best thing about this show (and there’s a lot of great things about this show!). Enver Gjokaj is still great at being Agent Sousa, and the awkward relationship between Peggy and him is great. Bridget Regan‘s Dottie is still as good as in season 1, and I quite like that she is in these first 2 episodes. Although I have to admit, I don’t even know if we’re going to see more of her this season or if this was it. The villains are well-played too, which is always a good thing.
The plot is good. It takes some unexpected twists and turns, which is also always a great thing. There are a couple of surprises in there that I enjoyed. The stakes get pretty high pretty fast, so it feels like they know where they’re going with this – and I like where they’re going. It also (tiny kinda-spoiler) ties in with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is pretty cool.
The writing was also great. The dialogues between Peggy and Jarvis alone are worth watching this show!
Now, the characters: there’s some characters that we know from season 1, like Peggy (obviously) and Jarvis (duh). There’s also Agent Sousa, Chief Thompson and Rose, the secretary – I love that they took her to L.A., too! Then there’s a couple of new ones, too, of course. The villains, whose names I won’t tell because I promised you a spoiler-free review; Violet, although I’m not telling you who that is; and Ana, Jarvis’ wife. She’s played by Lotte Verbeek – and she’s a freaking awesome character that I hope we see a lot more of this season!
And I think that’s about it. The next thing I’ll be working on is my inability to keep these posts short…
Now, rating: Exceeded Expectation. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s just the start of the season, so there’s still a chance. I have high hopes for season 2! And if you haven’t watched this yet but enjoy the MCU, you should totally check it out! Although you might want to start with season 1. Might be easier to understand what’s going on.
